Fecal Culture

For general enteric pathogens, primary cultures from feces, cecum or transport media are plated onto standard enteric media and MacConkey's agar, then plated onto Hektoen enteric agar.

For Pseudomonas aeruginosa, primary cultures are plated on Cetrimide agar and incubated at 42°C.

For Campylobacter jejuni and C. coli, primary cultures are plated on Blaser's CAMPY blood agar. If requested, screening for other species is accomplished using differential filtration isolation.

For Yersinia enterolytica, primary cultures are plated on CIN selective agar
